The Black Rock hybrid, is one of the most robust egg-layers that there are. Specially bred from highly productive strains, the Black Rock is a first cross hybrid of the famous Rhode Island Red cockerel and Barred Plymouth Rock hen. Reared from bought in, day old chicks, this patented bird makes an ideal free range hen, with its thick waterproof plumage and its feisty attitude. They are supremely resistant to disease, have hybrid vigour, and are proven productive egg-layers throughout life, producing up to 280 eggs in a year.

Glodline

Another popular hybrid, derived from original Rhode Island Red and Leghorn breeds, is the Goldline. They are supreme egg-layers, producing up to 320 light brown eggs in a year - that’s right! Three hundred and twenty, and after the first couple of weeks of laying, they are likely to be big ones too, averaging out around sixty grams (that’s a large egg to the man or woman in the street. The Goldline, is a quiet and docile bird, inquisitive and likely to follow you around in the garden if that is where you’re keeping her.

If white eggs are your thing, then maybe you will be interested in our beautiful White Star hens. These Leghorn hybrids can lay up to 320 eggs, and are good second year birds. They have some of the excitable nature of the original Leghorn and thrive well in open spaces.

Spekledy

Our Spekledy hens are a real treat for the eyes. Another hybrid, this time, derived from the French Maran breed, and retaining the look of the original, but with vastly improved egg-laying capability. Like the Maran, it produces rich brown eggs and is a very docile and friendly bird.

We also breed geese on the farm - Lagarth cross Dan geese to be exact. They will certainly give you advanced warning of intruders on your property, and many customers are buying them as an alternative to watch dogs. Apart from costing less than a dog to buy and keep, these charming birds lay enormous eggs between February and June. We sell them at day old, off heat, or fully feathered.
